Fellow Democrats,
The Strickland/House plan for the Ohio budget is the kind of education reform we have been waiting for since the DeRolph decision nearly two decades ago when the supreme court, on FOUR occasions, said that we do not fund public education adequately or equitably. If we are not able to get this legislation passed now, we may have to wait another 10-20 years for another opportunity. Nathan DeRolph is a grown man with children of his own. His children and all of our students deserve the best education Ohio can provide. Let's work together for better public education for all the children in the state. Here's how you can make a difference:
How Can We Help Pass a Pro-Public Education Ohio Budget?
• Send emails and make phone calls to targeted Ohio senators and representatives every day until the budget is passed. (likely the rest of this month)
o SD #06 Sen. Jon Husted; 614.466.4538; SD06@senate.state.oh.us
o SD #19 Sen. Bill Harris; 614.466.8086; SD19@senate.state.oh.uso HD #03 Rep. Ron Amstutz; 614.466.1474; district03@ohr.state.oh.us
o SD #17 Sen. John Carey; 614.466.8156; SD17@senate.state.oh.us
o SD #02 Sen. Mark Wagner; 614.466.8060; SD02@senate.state.oh.us
o SD #14 Sen. Tom Niehaus; 614.466.8082; SD14@senate.state.oh.us
o SD #20 Sen. Jimmy Stewart; 614.466.8076; SD20@senate.state.oh.us
Sample email or phone messages
• Please support an Ohio Budget that includes the education reforms in the Strickland/HB 1 bill. Ohio has 1.8 million public education students who are waiting for a constitutionally funded public education system. After studies under the Voinovich, Taft, and Strickland administrations, our students have waited too long. How much longer should our children wait for the guarantee of a quality education? I will support those legislators who support fixing a broken funding system with the Strickland/HB 1 bill.
• These times will tell what we value. The Strickland/HB 1 bill promotes positive changes to public education and public education funding. Please do not stand in the way of this progress. The Senate bill wants 2 more years of study before making changes to public education funding. Studies have already been done. The time for positive action for our children is now. I will support those legislators who take those positive actions.
• It’s time to move forward with the Strickland/House plan. It makes Ohio’s school funding fair and constitutional. It is a long-term solution for adequate funding. Our children have waited long enough. Nathan DeRolph is a grown man with children of his own. His children, and all Ohio’s children, deserve the best schools Ohio can provide.
• The Ohio’s 21st century economy needs a 21st century public education system to meet the challenges of a world economy. Don’t stand in the way of progress. The senate plan leaves Ohio in the 20th century. Support the Strickland/House plan.
• Only the Strickland/House plan can fix Ohio’s broken school funding system and prepare Ohio children with skills for the 21st century. This plan will integrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills into the classroom—21st century skills. This plan provides for more mentoring, collaboration, and professional development for educators. These are the tools that educators in others countries have that Ohio lacks. Stand with Ohio’s children for by supporting the Strickland/House plan.
• It’s time to put our students ahead of politics and support the Strickland/House Plan for Public Education. The Senate plan maintains the status quo for Ohio. Ohio now leads the nation in unemployment, foreclosures, and layoff. While the senate plan claims to provide more funding for public education, it’s really pass through money for charter schools. It’s time for meaningful change. Support the Strickland/House plan for a brighter future for Ohio’s economy and education.
• It’s time to put our students ahead of politics and support the Strickland/House Plan for Public Education. The Senate plan means higher local property taxes and there’s no plan to produces jobs in emerging industries. The senate plans means more of the same old thing. We need meaningful change in Ohio. Support the Strickland/House plan that has a vision for 21st century education, the backbone of a strong economy.

Garage Sale Season is Upon Us
Hello Democrats,
Many of us who were involved with the Obama campaign here in Trotwood are taking on a project this coming weekend. We are hosting a garage sale to benefit Trotwood Handivan. The sale will be Fri Sat & Sun from 9-6 at 100 E. Main Street (Paul and Bonnie Schenk's residence). We will be at the barn out back.
Your help is needed to prepare for and man the garage sale at Paul and Bonnie's.
I will be at the barn by their house from 10-2 tomorrow hoping I'm not alone. There is a lot more organizing to do. We need help from people who have muscle (that's not me) so bring your spouses and youngsters for help. We need someone to put up a clothesline and we need some clothes hangers. We need prayer for sunshine!
Garage sale is Friday 12th, Saturday 13th, and Sunday 14th from 9am to 6pm. Come shop for gently used treasures.
If you can help contact me or Betty Mc Beth (the garage sale organizer) to schedule work time. ,
Ruth's cell # 469-5256. My cell # 681-9404.
Let's work hard to make this project a success for those who give so much to our community.
